Fort Wayne records 9th shooting death within week

FORT WAYNE – Gunfire killed a 19-year-old man early Sunday, the city’s ninth shooting \nescalated and ended in gunfire shortly after 2:45 a.m.\nIt was the second shooting death of the weekend in the state’s second largest city. Early Saturday, a man died after he was shot outside a tavern.\nThe rash of homicides began with the shooting deaths Monday of five people at three different locations.

Teacher charged with breaking son’s nose with wrench

HAMMOND – A teacher who is already facing battery charges in a separate incident now faces charges alleging that he attacked his 11-year-old son with a wrench, breaking his nose. Zaceri Demond Williams, 33, is scheduled to appear Monday for preliminary hearing charges of neglect of a dependent and two counts of battery.

Chelsea Clinton returning to Indiana

INDIANAPOLIS – Chelsea Clinton is returning to Indiana to campaign for her mother, Democratic presidential hopeful Sen. Hillary \nRodham Clinton.\nClinton’s campaign said Chelsea Clinton will be in Indiana Sunday through Tuesday. She plans to stop in East Chicago, Lawrenceburg, Terre Haute, West Lafayette, Evansville, New Albany and Indianapolis. Several events will take place on college campuses.\nThe campaign said details of the visit will be released later.\nClinton and Sen. Barack Obama are in a tight race for the Democratic nomination and are vying for Indiana’s 72 delegates in the May 6 primary.
