Undersexed

As I opened my Indiana Daily Student today, I nearly sprayed milk out of my nose reading the preposterous abstinence article written by Justin P. Hill ("Oversexed," Mar. 4). While there are several extremely clever things I could say about Mr. Hill’s article that would not be appropriate for the pages of this newspaper, I will say this. Mr. Hill – Puritans from the 1600s called. They want their moral code back. To write here, in the pages of a university newspaper, about the moral reprehensibility of the Kinsey Institute, one of the proudest and most distinguished facets of our great University, is the apex of hypocrisy. Mr. Hill, seeing as how you’re a sophomore, it is obvious that you must have spent the last two years walking around Bloomington with your nose tucked in a Bible and your ears closed to the world around you. Universities are places that for centuries have been renowned for fostering a learning, tolerant environment. To suggest that the teaching of sex is something best left to sixth grade health class and Sunday School lessons is to further reinforce the very problems of defining and learning about sexual identity that plague this country today. Perhaps your close-minded, terrified viewpoint would be a bit more understanding if you had actually attended the exhibit you so ignorantly attack. It’s obvious that approaching and learning about viewpoints that challenge your own naive, close-minded opinions is something you’re not willing to attempt just yet. My advice to you, Mr. Hill – you need to get laid.
