Kudos to columnist

I would like to thank Justin P. Hill for his article “Oversexed” (March 4). I agree wholeheartedly that “our culture has a serious obsession with sex.” I get sadder every time I see porn glorified, whether on television, in movies or on campus. The objectification of women in porn, and in much of the greater society today, is much more than the pre-sexual revolution treatment of women ever was. Pornography is only one of the many factors facing adults today that have systematically broken away from the relation of love, sex and meaningful relationships.\nThe degree of pornography’s influence on murder can and should be debated, but I do hope that people start to take a step back and really think about what our society’s attitude about sex has become. Are people truly happy with the atmosphere of casual sex nowadays? Are romance and love dead? I sincerely hope not, but I think we all need to work harder to bring love and respect back into the equation, for both ladies \nand gentlemen. \nFor as long as I have remembered, I have wanted to grow up and get married. During an activity in one of my sex and gender classes I found out I was the only person in the entire lecture hall that had never had sex. At the time I thought, “Wow, am I really that big of a loser?” Looking back, I realize that our culture has worked its way into making people feel like they are less if they have never slept with someone before they get to college. Justin, I commend you for your article and defense of abstinence until marriage (or a long-term, committed relationship for some, even if you’re not very religious!), and I am right up there with you eagerly awaiting my wedding day.
