Real obscenities

I find it odd that IU Athletic Director Rick Greenspan is ready to call up the IDS and harp on the students for chanting obscenities, but couldn’t be bothered a few months back to directly answer questions about alleged recruitment abuses by Sampson. With regard to the UConn game, I’d feel a little better if I knew that Greenspan actually had words with Jim Burr (the head official at the IU vs. UConn game) or complained to the NCAA about yet another horribly-called game by Burr and his crew (an official who is, without a doubt, one of the all-time worst NCAA officials ever). But I’m guessing that Greenspan only directed his “ire” at the students.\nFurther obscenity: How about turning Assembly Hall into a corporate cartoon with Fed Ex giveaways, advertising posted everywhere and Pizza Hut commercials at half-time? How about eliminating the student section at the north end of the court? How about charging more for soda and popcorn than movie theatres (sans free refills)?\nYes, the officiating was terrible at the UConn game, and the student response was anything but sportsmanlike. But I’d really like to see Greenspan direct his “ire” at worthier targets (like Burr), create a larger student section closer to the court, get rid of the rampant corporatism in the Hall and do something about the cost of popcorn and soda. These are the real obscenities.
