I enjoyed Kelly Cochran’s article about Monday’s Ron Paul event. However, I would like to make one clarification. Kelly described Ron Paul as anti-abortion, and I don¹t believe that label is accurate.\nRon Paul voted nay to the following bills:\n• Child Interstate Abortion Notification Act, a bill that prohibits the transportation of a minor across state lines to obtain an abortion without the consent of a parent or legal guardian\n• Child Custody Protection Act, a bill that criminalizes the act of transporting a minor across state lines to avoid parental notification laws and obtain access to abortion services\n• Unborn Victims of Violence Act of 2001, a bill that criminalizes harming an unborn child/fetus while committing any of 68 federal offenses\nWhile Ron Paul is pro-life, his personal views are trumped by his oath to follow the constitution. So if a bill is unconstitutional, even if it might personally appeal to Paul, he will always oppose that piece of legislation.\nThe founders thought that the more complex an issue, the less the federal government should be involved. I think we could all agree that abortion is a very complex and controversial issue. That is why Paul does not believe that the federal government should be involved in the abortion question, and instead it should be left up to the states.\nThis is more than mere semantics. Calling Ron Paul anti-abortion implies that he is a social conservative who wants to use the power of the federal government to stop abortion, and that simply is not the case.
Ron Paul is not anti-abortion
