I am very disappointed by the IDS’ Thursday, Sept. 13, 2007 article, “Measuring a sex offender.” Although I am sympathetic to Jake’s situation, I really question why the IDS considered this news. First, with the exception of a few quotes from the IU RAISE coordinator, the article is completely one-sided. I am sure that because of confidentiality it would be impossible to contact the actual victim (the 13-year-old girl), but instead of finding someone to accurately represent what it feels like to be raped, the IDS continued on what seemed like a tirade against the injustices of statutory rape laws. Why, again, is this newsworthy? Please save your opinions for the back page and save the sob stories for the real survivors of these heinous crimes.
