John Vanderslice to play at Waldron

San Francisco-based indie rocker John Vanderslice will play the John Waldron Arts Center at 8 p.m. Oct. 5. Tickets for the show are $5 for IU students and $8 for the general public. They can be purchased at Tracks Music and Video and Landlocked Music, or online at www.bloomingtonarts.info. Bishop Allen and Husband & Wife will also perform. \nVanderslice recorded his newest album, “Emerald City”, live inside of his own recording studio. The album, released in July, was reportedly inspired by his French girlfriend’s struggle to get an American visa, and the result is a “political yet deeply personal exploration of angst in the age of terrorism,” according to Paste Magazine. To promote “Emerald City” – the title itself refers to the “Green Zone” in downtown Baghdad – Vanderslice took an unconventional approach. He videotaped the recording sessions from each of the nine tracks and then selected his favorite music blogs to premiere and promote his music. \nAbout Vanderslice, NPR recently said, “A gifted and highly sought-after producer, (he) gives ‘Emerald City’ a powerful sound to match his thoughtful lyrics.” For more information, as well as links to the “Emerald City” recording sessions, visit his Web site at www.johnvanderslice.com.
