9/11 coverage inappropriate

I am a fairly regular reader of the IDS, and I usually enjoy the articles. The articles are usually well written and the topics are of interest to the average college student. Even when the article doesn’t necessarily reflect my own political, religious and cultural views, I can read it and become more knowledgeable about the opposing opinion.\nThis morning however, I picked up a paper to read during a brief break, and was appalled by the article on the cover page: “Group questions 9/11 truth”. I understand that the writer and subjects in the article have the freedom to express their own views, but to put this article in the paper on the anniversary of these tragic events is completely inappropriate. Last year, I believe that I read an article in the IDS that mentioned some parents of IU students who fell victim to these attacks. I’m disappointed because I feel that it was insensitive to call into question the cause of their death on its anniversary. I understand that the IDS has the responsibility to tell the news as it is, including both popular and unpopular viewpoints. \nThe release of this article was very poorly timed, and I think that perhaps the content did more to offend than to inform. I hope that in the future, the IDS is more careful and sensitive in planning the release of controversial articles like this one.
