I just had the misfortune of reading Tyler James Perry’s article dated Oct. 3, 2006, entitled “Kiss my (cigarette) butt.”\nIn it, he states, “The main problem I have with this anti-smoking group is that it wants students to stop smoking on campus and smoke next to the city streets instead. This would obviously create problems when thousands of students flee to streets to smoke and fill all of the city’s sidewalks with smoke.”\nIs he out of his mind? Does he even realize what he wrote here? He thinks it is okay for students (and people anywhere) to have to breathe in this crap, but oh, let’s not go near the city streets because we can’t have them filling up with smoke! Is he joking!? I am laughing as I’m reading this article. He states that this (Facebook) group that wants smoking banned on campus doesn’t care about the people of Bloomington. How do they not care? They care enough about the students on campus to not want smoking to be in the vicinity which is a health hazard to everyone who has to smell it and breathe it in no matter how much they try to avoid it. The smokers are the ones who are selfish! Poisoning the air, polluting the planet, littering the ground with cigarette butts, threatening our very existence endangering our health by making people who don’t smoke inhale this deadly stuff, shall I go on? Then he has the nerve to go on and talk about unhealthy food on campus. Give me a break! Unhealthy food isn’t a hazard to the planet and it isn’t endangering anyone else when someone else is eating it. It is completely different from the issue of smoking! If he wants to compare things, he needs to make sure he is comparing apples to apples, not apples to broccoli (or should I say “unhealthy” French fries?).\nHe talks about people having the right not to breathe other people’s smoke, but where is that right when we have to walk outside a building and through a wall of smoke because all the loser smokers are standing out there smoking when they should be working inside their offices like the rest of us?\nThis issue is not over and smoking will eventually be banned. I can’t wait for that day!
