OK, we've all seen past VMA performances, and we're getting tired of watching people embarass themselves (kinda). So try out these clips instead of watching the "Star Wars" kid again. We bet you haven't seen 'em before.

• Beirut -- "Elephant Gun"\nThis is a triumphant gypsy rock tune from a fine group of songsters with visuals that make you want to play your trumpet on the beach, or just have a roll on the floor with a foxy European gal.

• The Boy Least Likely To -- "Be Gentle With Me"\nThis video has elements that are requisites for all successful productions: an adorable song, obtuse puppets, a love story, Karen from "The Office" and, of course, too-nerdy-not-to-be-cool dancing. \nYouTube search: "Be Gentle With Me"

• Cornelius -- "Fit Song"\nGranted, there are better songs by Japanese experimental pop artist Cornelius (check out his Fantasma album!), but this is one of those videos that leaves you dumbfounded as to how something like this was ever produced.\nYouTube search: "Fit Song"

• Elvis Costello and the Attractions -- "Radio, Radio" (Live on "SNL")\nPeople still debate whether this famed "SNL" appearance was a real on-the-fly change made in front of an audience of millions, or if it was a calculated move. The rumor behind this incident is that Costello's label didn't want him to play "Radio, Radio," as it was too critical of the music business and too "angry" for the show, but that he played it anyway. Regardless, Costello was banned from "SNL" for twelve years following the incident.\nYouTube search: "Radio, Radio"

• Margot & the Nuclear So and So's -- "Quiet as a Mouse"\nOne of central Indiana's most promising indie bands has a uniquely animated video for their single from The Dust of Retreat. The band's album and Web site also feature similar imagery and splotchy cats and mice for all to enjoy!\nYouTube search: "Quiet as a Mous"
