DJ Green Lantern to perform at Jake’s Nightclub Friday

Act adds to Little 500 lineup of Yellowcard, O.A.R.

Upon hearing that DJ Green Lantern is coming to Bloomington Friday, one student summed up the feelings of many when he asked, “Green Lantern who?”\nBut those who do know DJ Green Lantern and his music are ecstatic over him coming to Jake’s Nightclub, 419 N. Walnut St., on Friday. \n“I was almost shocked when I heard (DJ Green Lantern) was coming here,” said sophomore Donny Gaby. “We’re starting to get a lot better shows in Bloomington.”\nAccording to DJ Green Lantern’s Web site, “DJ Green Lantern is the future of hip-hop production.” He is Jay-Z’s touring DJ and has worked with 50 Cent and Eminem, said IU junior Jesse Chemtob, who helped bring him to Bloomington.\nChemtob, along with IU junior Bryan Bloom booked DJ Green Lantern a month and a half ago. Chemtob and Bloom formed the Web site www.btownlive.com to promote bringing DJ Green Lantern to Bloomington as well as “all other Bloomington night life,” Chemtob said. They previously tried to book Girls Gone Wild in January, though the Web site did not exist at that time, he said.\n“There was a problem with (Girls Gone Wild), the city of Bloomington had to get involved.” Chemtob said. “This is a better choice for Little 5.” \nChemtob said it is surprisingly easiewr to book an act than most students think and said he has being doing so since he was 16. \nChemtob said this is a good event for college students. \n“DJ Green Lantern has a massive following,” Chemtob said. “All his mix-tapes were coming out at the time when us college kids were in high school.” \nSince DJ Green Lantern is only coming by himself to Jake’s, it is expected to have more of a club feel, said IU junior Tim Zawada. There won’t be anyone rapping, just DJ Green Lantern playing his classic beats from his many mix-tapes over the years, he said.\nSome students are excited that more than just rock acts will be appearing on Friday. \n“I’d rather go (see Green Lantern) than Yellowcard,” Zawada said. \nFor those who do want to see Yellowcard, they can go to both, Chemtob said. The event was planned to not interfere with other concerts, he said.\n“Green Lantern will be (at midnight) so those going to see Yellowcard or O.A.R. can still come,” Chemtob said. \nThis will also be the first Little 500 event with the new management at Jake’s, said Jake’s manager Erik Duvall.\n“This will be the reincarnation of Jake’s for the Little 5 lineup,” he said. \nThe bar will feature extra security throughout the weekend, not just for the Green Lantern concert.\nTickets are $5 and can be purchased at Jake’s or online through Ticketmaster.com. \nTickets can be purchased at the door, but it is recommended to buy them early as the event is expected to sell out, Chemtob said. For more information, visit www.btownlive.com.\n“He’ll collect beats and puts them together in such a way that’s dope,” Gaby said. “I personally think he’s one of the best DJs around.”
