Young drivers with cell phones might cause harm

I’d like to comment on the dissenting opinion given in the “Dropped call collision” editorial in the Feb. 21 issue. If irresponsible drivers only caused themselves harm for their bad choices, perhaps the “formative power of trial and error” would be more acceptable. Unfortunately, however, the choices these drivers make usually impact someone else. It seems to be the intent of this legislation to protect those innocents who did not make an irresponsible decision. \nI agree that we need to hold teenagers, and indeed everyone, responsible for their actions. This means that we provide laws as guidance to help drivers make safe choices and that we provide consequences when they kill people because they made bad choices. Individual choices very often affect more than the decision-maker, and the sooner we all take responsibility for that reality, the safer we will be.
