Students ready to 'Yell Like Hell'

Competition lets participants voice their IU spirit

Along with the many traditions that ensue with annual events, Yell Like Hell offers a unique opportunity for students to show Hoosier pride. Yell Like Hell is a competition for student groups to show their IU spirit by dancing, lip-syncing, performing a comedy skit or other various acts and was held at Thursday night at Alumni Hall of the Indiana Memorial Union.\nAccording to the IU Alumni Association Web site, each individual skit must relate to homecoming's Glory Days theme, football or IU. There's a time limit of three minutes to complete the skit and five minutes between acts for setup and tear down. Groups are responsible for providing props other than microphones, lights and sound equipment. \nThe judging of the competition is based on originality, appearance and crowd response. Winners of Yell like Hell will be announced during halftime of the homecoming game.\nPhillip Blomeke, the Student Alumni Association director of events, said this year's competition will run almost exactly like last year's because no major changes were made. \nLast year's winner was IU Essence, an all-female dance team, which will compete again this year. \n"This year for (Yell Like Hell) we plan to do what we usually do, just have fun and bring a lot of energy and IU spirit to the stage," said Arbara Rogers, captain of IU Essence. "We changed our look a little, and we're doing more intricate moves and stunts in our routine." \nAndrea Faulconer, the director of parade and alumni hospitality for the Student Alumni Association, said she is excited to get homecoming started. \n"SAA puts a lot of time into planning homecoming in general, so we are really excited for homecoming weekend to get here and see all of our hard work pay off," Faulconer said. "Yell Like Hell is a great way to kick off the homecoming weekend and is a lot of fun for those involved"
