Another teen flick to add to the collection

I know what you're thinking, we don't need anymore teen flicks. But the future generations need one for their time and "John Tucker Must Die" is it. Although it is the first teen flick for writer Jeff Lowell ("Just Shoot Me!"), it is, for the most part, a success. Now whether that is because of the actual movie itself or the cast, I don't know. \nThe whole movie is a cliché. Kate (Brittany Snow) is the new girl at school, and being quite the wallflower, she finds it hard to get herself noticed. Kate takes on a job as a waitress at a local restaurant and that is where she first meets Mr. Popular, John Tucker ("Desperate Housewive's" Jesse Metcalfe). Kate is disappointed at first to see that he is on a date. She then becomes shocked to see John again the next night with another girl. Kate learns that John has a reputation for dating many girls, from different cliques, at the same time. When Heather (Ashanti), Beth (Sophia Bush) and Carrie (Arielle Kebbel) all have a run-in with each other and learn they are all being played, Kate makes the mistake of butting in.\nThe three all look to Kate for advice to get revenge, since she has witnessed something like this with her mom (played by Jenny McCarthy). When all of their ideas fall through, making John even more popular, they resort to one last idea: having Kate go undercover as a cheerleader, make John fall for her and break his heart. And though Kate pretends to be interested in John, she is really interested in his brother, Scott (Penn Badley), the one person who had noticed her before she was Miss. Cheerleader. \nI won't give away the entire ending, but Kate starts to realize what she has gotten herself into once John starts to fall for her and Scott starts to back off. \nThe acting was decent, but then again, anyone could play these roles. Brittany Snow was good, I will give her credit; and same with Sophia Bush. Ashanti's acting was so-so. I personally think she should stick to singing. Arielle Kebbel is somewhat of a newcomer, and it shows, but I seem to be seeing her a lot lately ("American Pie: Band Camp," "Aquamarine"). Jesse Metcalfe was fine as John, as he definitely fits his role as the hottie, but it's a little weird to see him playing a high schooler when he's really almost 30. \n"John Tucker" is a mix between "10 Things I Hate About You", "Mean Girls" and probably every other teen movie out there. It has it's funny scenes and it has it's cheesy ones. What else can I say? It's your typical teen movie.
