DMX cancels IU benefit concert

Artist signs new contract voiding show at ATO

The concert featuring Grammy-nominated rapper DMX was canceled, said Jonathan Potts, a spokesperson for the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. \nHe said DMX had recently signed a new record deal with Sony records. Part of the terms of that deal, Potts said, were the canceling of events scheduled under his old record contract with Def Jam, including the stop at IU.\nRepresentatives from ATO had said DMX would highlight its annual Hip-Hop-a-Palooza, which is in its second year, according to a March 1 Indiana Daily Student article. G-Unit rapper Young Buck performed last year. It is unclear who, if anyone, will perform in DMX's place. Money made from the concert was to be donated to the Boys and Girls Club of Bloomington.\nPotts said because of the short time frame, it is unlikely that the fraternity would be able to bring a similarly big-name act. It is unclear at this time if the Hip-Hop-a-Palooza will continue as planned. The event was intended to span across the lawns of multiple houses facing the fraternity.\n"We worked with a very special promoter on this, so I doubt we'll bring someone else like that," Potts said. "But we should have some good stuff, maybe at the end of this year and next year."\nUnion Board's concert featuring Wilco at the IU auditorium remains unchanged. It is scheduled for 8 p.m. Monday, April 17, according to the UB Web site. Tickets are $24.50 for students, $32.50 otherwise.
