When IU fans in Assembly Hall's east stands got their first glimpse of their new basketball coach Wednesday, they saw him walk onto Branch McCracken court behind seven current IU players.\nD.J. White was among them. Robert Vaden was not.\nWith new IU coach Kelvin Sampson's coronation came more questions about the future plans of Hoosier sophomores White and Vaden, questions that were largely left unanswered at Sampson's introduction.\nWhite was available to take on some of those questions following Sampson's press conference Wednesday. He indicated that he and other players had met with Sampson for 45 minutes immediately before the press conference, but said that he would continue to weigh his options before deciding whether he would return to IU for another season. \n"(Sampson's) a good guy," White said. "I just want to get know him. That's basically it. I'll give him a chance, just get to know him."\nWhite also stated that he would continue to include Davis in his decision-making process.\n"I talk to (Davis) quite a bit," White said about the former IU coach. "Like I said, that's my coach. He's the reason I'm here."\nVaden was not as accessible. The former all-Big Ten freshman team honoree was spotted on the Assembly Hall concourse and refused to comment on his plans for the future. Vaden was with freshman guard Joey Shaw and sophomore Mike Davis Jr.\n"What plans?" Vaden said. "I'm not trying to talk about any of this."\nWhite and Vaden were not the only ones asked to forecast their collegiate basketball futures. Sampson was asked in his press conference if he had, during his meeting with the team, specifically reached out to any players to try to keep them in the program.\n"Not really," Sampson said. "I met with the team, and I talked to a group of kids. I talked to a group of kids that desperately want a coach and need a coach right now ... I need this team. And I think they need me."\nOther IU players were left to speculate about White and Vaden's reactions to Sampson's hiring. Of the seven players that attended the press conference -- White, juniors Rod Wilmont and Errek Suhr, sophomore Adam Ahlfeld and freshmen Ben Allen and Kyle Taber -- Wilmont offered the most insight into the duo's thought process. \n"It's pretty much not the coach that is going to keep D.J., it's the players like myself and (sophomore) A.J. (Ratliff)," he said. "I really feel D.J. is going to come back. (With) Robert, it's going to be hard, but I'm going to try my best.\n"I've known D.J. and Vaden since they were in high school, so I'm going to try my best to get them back here and hopefully I'm going to do that."\nWhen asked what would persuade Vaden to stay at IU, Wilmont responded with humor. \n"I don't know," he said, smiling. "Tell him to take all the shots"
