The IU Police Department is investigating a case of vandalism from Saturday that left extensive damage to the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity house on 720 East 3rd Street. IUPD Lt. Jerry Minger said his department has no leads at this time, but is still investigating the incident.\nAccording to the police reports, officers were called to the scene at 9:48 p.m. Saturday by House Director David Fender. Fender told IUPD he left the ATO house around 5 p.m. Saturday and everything was fine. When he returned that night, he discovered seven broken windows, six smashed fire extinguisher covers, a hole in a wall on the second floor and black paint on the living room carpet. Damage to the building was estimated at $1,200. \n"We turned it over to the police to investigate because we didn't have any leads," said Mike Pipher, ATO secretary of the alumni board of directors.\nPipher said that although many students had already moved out, a few remained in the house through Sunday. It was unknown whether the vandalism was done by an ATO brother or someone outside of the fraternity, he said.\n"We have indicated by contacting the police that we would press charges if anyone could be found responsible for the damage," Pipher said.\nIf anyone has information pertaining to the vandalism, they are asked to contact IUPD at 855-4111.
