False bomb threat made at IMU

An anonymous caller phoned the IU Police Department early Sunday morning to report a bomb in the Indiana Memorial Union. IUPD Lt. Jerry Minger said the call was traced back to a pay phone outside Alumni Hall. \nDuring the time, the Zeta Phi Beta sorority was holding a dance in Alumni Hall. Minger said officers suspected the call was made to clear the line to enter the dance and gain entrance to the event.\nThis is the second bomb threat made in the last month. On Jan. 20, the IMU was cleared when a subject reported a bomb in Alumni Hall in the IMU, where the IU College Republicans and Monroe County GOP were in the midst hosting an Inaugural Ball. It was later determined the call was made from a convenience store on South Walnut Street.\n"Even though we take these threats seriously, it's not all that uncommon for it to happen on a college campus," Minger said. "Everyone is a little more sensitive to these things because of the terrorism aspect."\nMinger said the incident has been classified as "inactive" because there is nothing additional to investigate.
