IUSA develops new Web site

New features aim to give leaders more student feedback

Students wanting to learn more about their IU student representatives will have better access, thanks to the revamped IU Student Association Web site. The site has contact information for students' individual representatives, IUSA executive biographical information, along with committee information and links to the various organizations under the IUSA umbrella.\n"If students have questions about specific issues, they can ask us; we're open 24/7," IUSA President Tyson Chastain said. "This new Web site is a way for them to get in contact with their student representatives. This gives students the option to ask their student leaders any questions and to also talk with their student representatives."\nStudents visiting the Web site will be able to take Internet surveys regarding pending issues, see a list of upcoming IUSA events, view student leader positions on student issues, such as the athletic fee, and get information regarding IUSA responsibilities. \nHaving a new Web site to give the student population a better explanation of what is happening in their student government will benefit students as a whole, said junior Sabina Bhasin, who is also an Indiana Daily Student employee.\n"Students will actually feel that they are a part of (student government)," she said. "This will help students contribute more and they will feel that they are involved."\nStudents will see just another added resource to get in touch with their student representatives and leaders, said IUSA Webmaster and junior Wesley Harder.\n"I spent a chunk of the past summer working on improving the Web site," Harder said. "This enables improved communication. Students can communicate more easily with their student representatives and their student representatives can communicate more easily with their student constituents."\nStudents will have a better grasp of issues affecting them through an easily accessible Web site, junior Caroline Friduss said.\n"I think people spend a lot of time on their computers," she said. "Students will know more about the issues through a Web site rather than seeing the issues advertised on a sidewalk." \nChastain said he is hopeful that the new Web site will address students' personal concerns with issues that may affect them.\n"We (IUSA) hope by creating this more effective Web site, student leaders will be more equipped with individual responses regarding administration policies," he said.\nFor more information visit www.indiana.edu/~iusa/.\n-- Contact Staff Writer Eric Tash at etash@indiana.edu
