Taxi has no drive, runs flat

MIDEAST RUNNING THE SAHARA

For every former "SNL" actor pulling a Will Ferrell in the world of movies there is a Chris Kattan ready to suck. The movie "Taxi" is being billed as Jimmy Fallon's first big attempt at carrying a movie. Can he do it? No, he can not.\nEvery chase scene is done well and looks very cool, but it seems that was the only element of the movie any work was put into. The plot seems to be taken from Cop-Buddy Movie 101, and all the conflicts can be seen from a mile away. Even with the predictability, the movie relies on plot points that are incredibly unbelievable. \nFurthermore, the acting is pretty much just the characters playing their personas for an hour and a half. Just to break it down for everyone: Queen Latifah is big and sassy, Gisele Bundchen is hot and Jimmy Fallon is dorky and stupid, but means well. Queen Latifah drives her pimped-out taxi very fast. There, I just saved you seven dollars.\nFor those interested in the intricacies of the plot line, here goes. Fallon plays Washburn, a police officer who takes it way too seriously, but still gets himself into trouble all the time. To add to his problems, he cannot drive very well, and while attempting to pursue a gang of criminals, he backs into a bodega. This prompts his lieutenant and former partner (Jennifer Esposito) to suspend his license. When super-hot Vanessa (Bundchen) robs a bank with her three super-hot accomplices, Washburn must pursue her in a taxi. But not just any taxi. It's been souped up by the in-your-face Belle (Latifah). Belle meanwhile dreams of being a NASCAR driver and has relationship problems with her boyfriend. Needless to say, Washburn (after getting taken off the case of course) and Belle team up to be a wacky, odd-ball, mismatched duo as they chase after Vanessa and her gang. \nThe movie is not the worst attempt ever (at least Fallon's not a Kattan), but just seems uninspired. Fallon manages to do well in some scenes, such as dinner at his drunken mom's house. Latifah will come away from this fine; she always seems to, but Fallon really needs to consider better material. If not, maybe Will Ferrell will give him a bit part in his next movie.
