More dancin,' less romancin'

The Master of R&B has struck again, yet true fans will be disappointed in Kelly's latest effort Happy People/U Saved Me. The Chicago native released his eighth album amid controversy over his alleged sexual relations with a minor, and it's obvious his message is to dispel any rumors or negative thoughts anyone might have about the soul singer. \nR. Kelly's double-disc features two very different personalities, yet neither sounds like the vibin' player he once was. Maybe his attitude has turned soft due to his legal problems, or maybe Robert Kelly is simply growing up. \nHis first disc, titled Happy People, has an uptempo feel that will surely get you out of your seat and clappin' your hands. There isn't much substance, but come to think of it, there never really is. Your honor, I give you exhibit 6B: "Ignition (Remix)." When I listen to this album, I feel like I'm at a wedding reception. Note: If you didn't like "Step in the Name of Love," you won't like this album. \nU Saved Me has a feel much like previous hits "Gotham City" and "I Believe I Can Fly." One can gather this is his futile attempt for redemption, but I question if he's doing it for himself or for the fans. Kelly's gospel tracks may mask his freaky side for the time being, but if he wants to put the R back in R&B, he'll have to come with more flavor than this.
