Officials dedicated to University

IU board of trustees oversee rules, regulations

Move-in day, the induction ceremony and roommate meet-and-greets, are just some of the many things freshmen face. They will read and hear countless names of administrators, faculty and staff without having a clue who those people are or what they have to do with the University. For that matter, students who have been at IU for years may not know these key individuals, such as the board of trustees, one of the most important branches of the University government.\nThe IU board of trustees meets monthly and has the power to govern by specific regulation and other lawful means. As such, the people from the board are just as important as the board itself.\n \nFrederick F. Eichhorn, Jr., President\nGraduated from IU in 1952 and was in the Air Force for two years after graduation. He is currently the president of the trustees and was appointed by the governor in 1990. He is the trustee liaison to IU-Northwest Gary.\n"We're all great Indiana busters and we all attended Indiana at one level or another and it's just a love of the institution that makes (us) want to serve."

Stephen L. Ferguson, Vice President \nGraduated from the IU School of Law in 1966. He has worked as an attorney for a private law firm as well as Monroe County and the Indiana Court of Appeals. He was appointed by the governor in 1998 and serves as the trustee liaison to IU-Southeast New Albany.

Jamie Belanger \nGraduated from IU in 2000 with a B.S. in finance. His most notable job was working as the fund raising director for Pi Kappa Phi Alumni Corporation. He was elected by the IU alumni in 2002 and is the trustee liaison to IU-East Richmond.

Cora Smith Breckenridge\nHas several degrees from IU, the most recent being in Post Graduate Studies in speech and hearing in 1967. She is a retired Speech and Language Pathologist for the Elkhart, Ind. community schools. She was elected by the IU alumni in 1997 with her special area being in IU--South Bend.

Erin Haag Breese \nReceived both her M.D. and PhD. in biochemistry and molecular biology from the IU School of Medicine. She is a student trustee and was appointed by the governor in 2003 with her term ending in June 2005.

Clarence W. Boone, M.D. \nAfter receiving two degrees from the University, Boone has been involved in several IU organizations and foundations throughout the years. He was appointed by the governor this year and is the trustee liaison to IU--Purdue University Fort Wayne. \n"I was thrilled and elated to be given that honor. I want to give my all to the University and make it a better place."

Jeffrey S. Cohen \nEarned a B.S. from the Kelley School of Business in 1986, and is now the managing director of a financial group in Indianapolis. He is the liaison for the IU--Purdue University Fort Wayne.

Patrick A. Shoulders\nHas two degrees from IU with the most recent one coming in 1978. He was the director of the IU Alumni Association from 2000-2001 and is the chair for the Trustees Finance & Audit committee. His term ends in June.

Sue H. Talbot \nHas three degrees from IU, which ties Breckenridge for the most of the group. She was the founding director of Hoosiers for Higher Education and is the trustee liaison for IU--Kokomo. \nFor more information visit www.indiana.edu/~trustees/. \n- Contact senior writer Mike Malik at mjmalik@indiana.edu.
