'Mutilation' never sounded so good

Wave of Mutilation is the second "best-of" release from the Pixies since the group disbanded in 1992. While many may ask, "Why would they do a second best-of?," the only answer I can offer is that it serves as a better representation of the band's coming of age. More or less in chronological order, the compilation has an evolving theme showing the Pixies' growth from one album to the next.\nFor the most part, Mutilation has everything you could ask for from a Pixies' collection, including two b-sides, "Winterlong" and "Into the White," which are nice additions and add to the overall flow of the record. A fair collection of singles including such classics as "Here Comes Your Man," "Where Is My Mind?" and my personal favorite, "Alec," are also included. Some tracks were surprisingly picked over others, but that is really the only flaw.\nIt may seem unnecessary for the Pixies to release another "best-of," considering many fans have likely made their own mixes of what they deem best. So, if you own every album, it may not worthwhile, but for someone with little Pixie experience, Mutilation gives an educational tour of the band's career.
