Renowned physicist to lecture about brain\nThe IU Institute for Advanced Study will present a lecture at 4 p.m., tonight, titled "The Hidden Dimensions of the Holographic Brain."\nThe lecturer, Professor Eshel Ben Jacob, is a professor of physics at Tel Aviv University and president of the Israeli Physics Society. \nThe presentation will cover new information discovered by the Institute for Advanced Study on epileptic brain activity and the way the brain views reality.\nBen Jacob will be a Fellow of the Institute from May 4 though 26 and will work with colleagues in Physics, Microbiology, Informatics and Computer Science, Psychology and Mathematics. \nFor more information, contact his primary sponsor, James A. COPSL to sponsor service-learning \nprogram with lectures \nCommunity Outreach and Partnerships in Service Learning will hold a Service-Learning Summer Institute from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday through Friday at the Indiana Memorial Union University Club Faculty Room. Lunch will be served each day to participants.\nThe program will feature lectures from professors including Professor Ali Bryant of telecommunications and Heather Reynolds, professor of biology. Also speaking will be Leslie Lenkowsky, former CEO of the Corporation for National and Community Service.\nThe lectures will cover the topics of civic engagement, successful models of service-learning, advocates for community engagement and other topics.\nParticipants in the program must register. IU Outdoor Adventures holds summer workshops\nIU Outdoor Adventures will be holding workshops throughout the summer to provide participants with the skills and knowledge to travel in wilderness areas.\nEach program will end with a three-day backpacking trip to the Red River Gorge in Kentucky. Beginners are welcome. Upon completion of the workshops, participants will earn a certificate of completion for the Wilderness Education Association.\nWorkshop topics include Wilderness and First Aid, Map and Compass and other topics necessary for wilderness hiking.\nParticipation fees for IU students are reduced. Kirkwood Observatory to hold open-sky viewing\nThe Kirkwood Observatory will hold an open sky viewing session from 9 to 11 p.m., Wednesday.\nThe viewing session is open to all students and community members free of charge. The observatory is located at the edge of campus between the woods and where Indiana Avenue meets 4th Street.\nNo registration or sign-up is required to attend.
