Disappointment with front page news\nI am writing in regard to the headline story published Tuesday in your paper discussing the situation occurring the past weekend at Delta Tau Delta fraternity. I am forced to question the purpose and intentions of this article and the deemed necessity that it appear as front page news. The gist of your article was that police arrived at the house and intruded upon an alcohol-free philanthropy event, am I correct? What is the story? What justification do you have simply pointing out that the police force suspected a crime and realized their errors and printing it as front page news? I find it personally disrespectful and highly inappropriate to shine a negative spotlight on Delta Tau Delta for purposes of displaying the police presence in this town for Little Five, (as I can only imagine was the purpose of the article.) I am very angry at the decision to publish the essentially pointless story in the first place and personally offended that my house is negatively portrayed on the front page of your newspaper. This is a terribly unjustified manipulation of the news media, and the innocent members of my house will not stand for it.
IDS could lose Greek support\nI was absolutely appalled Tuesday morning when I began reading the front page of the Indiana Daily Student and found that an article regarding a Greek chapter that actually had no relevance took precedence over a man that attempted to take his life by jumping out of the eighth floor of a University building. I think you will begin to find that the Greek Community will begin to completely pull out of the IDS due to the continual negativity that the IDS likes to place over the Greek community. I think that somewhere, the IDS has forgotten what is actually important and that maybe printing a story without any real substance and placing it above a man who tried to commit suicide on campus proves that exact point.
Negative press was unwarranted\nI was extremely upset at the article concerning Delta Tau Delta being the lead story in Tuesday's newspaper. I just do not understand why this story needs to attract more attention than a student attempting suicide and a new fee system that will cost students more.\nFurthermore, you wrote a story based on suspicions. In fact, I would even say that there is no story to report yet. You backed up your misleading headline with, and I quote, "misunderstandings," potential "false reports," "people who may have appeared drunk" and "no state laws being broken." \nDelta Tau Delta is a strong fraternity that is constantly trying to make improvements for both the Greek and Indiana University community. Now, because of this story, DTD has to fight off negative press that is unwarranted during a week that should be filled with fun and excitement.
P.S. Maybe next time, the IDS should cover the actual philanthropic event instead of "misunderstandings"
