Women's History Month to end with a celebration\nMiddle Way House will wrap up Women's History Month with a day-long celebration Saturday. Beginning at noon, women artists will be displaying and selling their artwork at the Ballroom on the third floor of Fountain Square Mall. The display will last until 6 p.m. The Annual Meeting of Women's History Month will also be held form 6:15 to 7:30 p.m. at the auditorium of the John Waldron Arts Center. After the meeting, beginning at 8 p.m., local musicians and a disc jockey will be performing. The performers will include Code Blue; Janiece Jaffe, Cathy Spiaggia and Amy Roche; and Lara Weaver & Kevin MacDowell.\nMan frees son from under car after crash \nMORGANTOWN, Ind. -- A man helped lift a car off his 14-year-old son who was trapped beneath the flipped vehicle, officials said.\nDaniel Haywood, 14, was flown by medical helicopter to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis from the accident in Morgantown, about 25 miles south of Indianapolis, Wednesday.\nHaywood was in critical condition, hospital spokesman Jon Mills said Thursday.\nHaywood and his older brother Anthony, 16, were driving near their home when Anthony lost control of the car.\nHe told the Brown County Sheriff's department that he swerved to avoid birds in the road. The vehicle left the road, went through a fence, struck a tree and flipped onto the passenger side, trapping Daniel underneath.\nAnthony escaped and placed two calls, one to 911 and the other to his father, David.\nDavid Haywood arrived before emergency personnel to find his trapped son. He and several others at the scene pushed the car upright, lifting it off the boy, police said.\nWoman gets 14 years for stealing money from day care\nLAFAYETTE -- A woman who pleaded guilty to embezzling hundreds of thousands of dollars from a child care center was sentenced to 14 years in prison.\nDianne L. Spurgeon, 48, was also ordered Wednesday to make $243,362 in restitution and spend two years on probation after her release from prison.\nProsecutors said Spurgeon, the former business manager of the Tippecanoe County Child Care Inc., stole about $263,000 from the nonprofit United Way agency. The TCCC operates five child care facilities in Lafayette and West Lafayette.\nUnder a plea agreement Spurgeon accepted in December, she is required to make restitution to TCCC and repay Tippecanoe County for the $1,435 it cost to bring her back from Arizona, where she was working at the time she was charged last July.\nSpurgeon expressed remorse during her sentencing hearing and said she was willing to begin repaying the money.
