New cabaret project 'Candy and Friends' debuts Saturday\nThe Bloomington Playwright Project presents the debut of 'Candy and Friends' at 8 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 16 and Saturday, Jan. 17 at the BPP, located at 322 S. The piece addresses the relationship between body image, sexuality and eating disorders through the autobiographical work. Tickets are $7 for students and $10 for adults. Walnut St.\nUnion Board Films presents Antwone Fisher\nShowings will be at 8 and 11 p.m., Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the Whittenberger Auditorium in the IMU. The movie is about a sailor (Derek Luke) prone to violent outbursts who is sent to a naval psychiatrist (Denzel Washington) for help. Refusing to open up, the young man eventually breaks down and reveals a horrific childhood. Through the guidance of his doctor, he confronts his painful past and begins a quest to find the family he never knew. The show is free with a student ID and $2 without.\nLocal diversity festival honors MLK Jr. with theatre twist\nThe Bloomington Playwrights Project will hold its annual Diversity Festival beginning at noon on Monday, Jan. 19 at the Project on 312 S. Washington St. The free festival offers performances that include social perspectives.
