Two IU Police Department officers suffered minor injuries in a car crash late Saturday night when the car they were traveling in was broadsided at the intersection of Tenth Street and Jordan Avenue by an sport utility vehicle whose driver ran a red light.\nAccording to IUPD, Detective Gregory McClure and Officer Amanda Yanez were en route to Willkie Quad to work security for a dance sponsored by the Pan-Hellenic Council when their department issue red 2001 Ford Taurus was hit on the rear passenger side door by a red Jeep Liberty traveling over 40 mph at about 9:35 p.m.\nThe Taurus spun three times and came to a stop in the center of Jordan Avenue south of Tenth Street. The Jeep Liberty came to a stop about 10 feet from the car just at the point where Jordan intersects with Tenth Street.\nMcClure was driving when his glasses were knocked off from the impact of the crash. McClure called 911 using his department cell phone because the car radio was disabled by the impact, and his portable radio was also lost as a result of the crash. McClure suffered minor bumps and bruises.\nYanez remained in the car complaining of neck and side pain and was still strapped in when Bloomington Hospital Ambulance Service arrived and removed her from the car with the help of the Bloomington Fire Department.\nOfficers were on the scene within one minute following the crash and began sealing off Jordan Avenue from both directions to prevent traffic tie-ups.\nBoth McClure and Yanez were transported via ambulance to Bloomington Hospital where they underwent examination. McClure was released in time to return to duty at Willkie Quad. Yanez was released two hours later at around 2:30 a.m.
