Clearly we have entered a new era in music distribution. So rampant is electronic file sharing that we now have The Used's Maybe Memories. From a band standpoint, this album isn't a watershed but rather a symbol for how to treat one's fans. From a fan standpoint, you might feel you need this in order to recommit.\nMore famous for producing Kelly Osbourne's ex-boyfriend -- frontman Bert McCracken -- The Used actually put out an underrated self-titled debut last year, full of determined emocore that impressed with its musicality just as you were about to dismiss it as mere major label product. Filled with unstructured songs but a focused attitude, this Provo, Utah quartet -- yes, I said Utah -- has released Maybe Memories, a CD/DVD combo detailing a Los Angeles show from March as well as demos and unreleased material.\nProduced again by Goldfinger auteur John Feldmann, an expert in pulling out a punk band's positive vibes, The Used maintain their previous energy, lead a sing-along, succeed at an impressive piano experiment and unveil a poignant Christmas song.\nThe DVD includes band bios, the aforementioned live show and videos. Clearly, this is the kind of document bands need to release to connect intimately with their audience. Other bands should pay attention.
