Pat Green is a hard drinkin', hard smokin' Texan and damn proud of it. He's John Mellencamp with a little Dwight Yoakam thrown in for good measure, and blends those influences into a roots-rock frenzy.\nHis latest album, Wave on Wave, is mostly a series of country rock anthems that don't add up to a tremendous deal, but are nice tunes anyway. A few tracks do stand out, and when Green has a good song he turns his music into a stellar accomplishment. He drives these songs with his rough, world-weary voice and tremendous hooks that puts anyone featured on CMT to complete shame. \nThis album features a nice ensemble cast to help out the band. Mike Daly, of the now defunct Whiskeytown, contributes some steel guitar. Oh, and a nice little guy you might have heard of before does some backing vocals, he goes by the name of Willie Nelson.\nWave on Wave isn't changing the sound of country music. Green just wants to sit back, drink some beers, smoke some cigarettes and share some thoughts on life with you. Give him a chance and you might just find yourself tapping your toes and nodding in agreement.
