Legally Blonde 2: Red, White and Blonde" is definitely blonder, but that doesn't necessarily make it better. The original was silly, lighthearted fun. The sequel is a rehash, and though the stakes are higher, the premise seems even more unlikely than in the first.\nElle (Reese Witherspoon) is about to be married to Emmett (Luke Wilson, collecting a paycheck). Though, when she discovers that one of her firm's clients uses animal testing and wants to protest, she is fired. This prompts her to move to Washington, D.C. and work as an animal rights lobbyist for Rep. Rudd (Sally Field). In keeping with the first film, Elle sticks out like a sore thumb because once again, she always wears pink. In fact, everything about her is pink -- excepting that she isn't showing any here. She works to pass her bill to ban animal testing while battling against backstabbing, hard-nosed politicos, government corruption and of course, discrimination against blondes who always wear pink.\nAt the end of the first movie, Elle became much more serious and acted less ditzy, which was why she succeeded. When the second begins, it seems that she is possibly even ditzier than before. She is constantly relying on help and encouragement from others. Before she was fired, implications were made that she was not only very successful, but in the wings for a promotion. It's hard to believe that she could have amassed such success, as she's constantly acting (my apologies for the stereotype) entirely too blonde. \nThe movie improves during the middle portion, but most of the time it is too over-the-top and even stupid. The few funny moments come when stereotypes go so far that they are ridiculous; most significantly the tremendous barbs directed at sorority girls. \nThe conclusion of the movie was the biggest letdown. Instead of resolving any of the conflicts built up, the movie instead relies on titles at the bottom of the screen telling how all was resolved. While "Legally Blonde 2: Red, White and Blonde" may be bigger and blonder, the two added together do not equal quality or substance.
Bigger and blonder equals dumber
