Professor's license revoked by state

TERRE HAUTE -- The state nursing board has temporarily suspended the license of an Indiana State University psychology professor accused of sexual misconduct with a student.\nThe Indiana State Board of Nursing voted unanimously last week to suspend Jerome Cerny's license for 90 days, giving the state attorney general's office time to conduct its own investigation.\nIn its petition to seek the latest temporary suspension, the attorney general's office wrote that if Cerny were to continue to practice as a licensed registered nurse, he would represent a danger to public health and safety.\nIn May, the state Psychology Board voted to temporarily suspend Cerny's license to practice psychology.\nNo one answered Tuesday at a telephone number listed for Cerny in Terre Haute. A message seeking comment was left Tuesday at the office of Cerny's attorney, John Ittenbach.\nThe state's petition argues Cerny has violated professional regulations. At issue is whether Cerny engaged in sexual contact with a student under his supervision and used the psychologist-research participant relationship to solicit sexual contact in violation of state law.\nCerny signed an agreement with the university in January in which he agreed to go on leave and retire next year.
