Headaches abound for weak euro-dance group

Can we say "publicity stunt?" Watch the music video of t.A.T.u.'s hit single "All The Things She Said," depicting two girls passionately making out in a prison during a thunderstorm. Then listen to their vehement denial when asked of their suggested relationship. All of this ballyhoo and will their record be as big a hit in the United States as it is in Europe? t.A.T.u. is Lena Katina and Julia Volkova and its album, 200 KM/H In The Wrong Lane, plays like one long remix of the same song. The overabundant sound of the synthesizer attempts to hide the fact that these girls can't sing. With each track, their vocal ranges seem to get stretched more and more, thanks to technology. While songs like "Malchik Gay" (Russian for "gay boy") and "Not Gonna Get Us" start out promising, promises are broken when the heavy synthesizers start causing some headaches. Watch out for a putrid dance/rock cover of The Smith's "How Soon Is Now?" that winds up sounding like a cross between Human League and A-ha. This album is for true lovers of euro-dance only.
