The IU women's golf team traveled just up the road to Franklin, Ind., to take part in the fifth annual Shootout at the Legends Tuesday and returned to campus with a third place finish. The third place finish is the highest the Hoosiers have finished in the event. In the previous four years the team has not finished above fourth place.\nWhile the squad did not walk away with the team championship trophy, junior Karen Dennison captured her second individual title of the year by shooting a 212 and finishing 4-under par for the tournament. Dennison finished four shots ahead of her closest competitor, junior Malinda Johnson from Wisconsin. \nDennison won her first title of the year at the season opener at the Wolverine Invitational. Prior to this season, her highest finish in a collegiate tournament was fourth at the 2001 Hatter Fall Classic. Dennison, the No. 13 ranked golfer in the nation according to the Golf Week/Sagarin ratings, was paced by her performance Monday. She shot a first round 68 and followed that up with a 70, to finish 6-under par for the day. Her 138 score for those 36 holes set an IU record for lowest 36-hole score in school history. The 138 mark eclipsed Dennison's own record, one she set earlier this year at the Lady Northern Intercollegiate in Iowa City, Iowa, where she finished second. Dennison's first round score of 68 ties her career best and was one shot off of the school record held by Jennifer Gray.\nThe No. 11 ranked Hoosiers started the final round of play three shots behind eventual champs Kent State, but shot a final round of 305. The team finished two shots behind second place Missouri, who shot a final round of 300.\nJunior Amrby Bishop, a Franklin native, shot a combined 230 to finish in a tie for 26th. Rounding out the Hoosier squad were senior Mary Lidester, who finished with a 231 and placed 32nd. Junior Danah Ford and senior Cara Stuckey finished the tournament tied for 36th place, and freshman Molly Redfearn tied for 42nd place.\nThe Hoosiers set numerous records at the Legends Shootout. The team bettered their 2001 18- (295) and 36-hole (594) performances with 294 and 592, respectively. Dennison's 68 and 138 totals were better than Erin Carney's 69 and 143 in 1998. Carney went on to win the 1998 Legends event with a score of 214.
