In the world of anniversary and special-edition DVD releases, a good number of them are either unwanted or unnecessary. In this myriad of multi-disc collections, a film comes along that is worthy of the title of special edition. Such is the case with the 10th-anniversary release of Unforgiven.\nIn 1992, Eastwood's epic western walked away from the Academy Awards with four statues, including best picture and best director. After a decade, the tale of aged gunfighters and vicious lawmen hasn't lost any power. Eastwood stars as Will Munny, a former killer who, along with his former partner, Ned (Morgan Freeman), heads to the town of Big Whiskey, Wyo., to collect one last bounty. In their way is Sheriff Bill Daggett (Gene Hackman), a man who is as amiable as he is brutal. All of these men are killers, and Unforgiven looks at them in a way that isn't glamorous, which helps make the film more interesting.\nThis DVD's special-features disc offers up many extras, including four documentaries about the film. One from 2002, "All on Account of Pullin' a Trigger," looks at the impact of the film 10 years after the fact and features interviews with the cast and crew. Two from 1992, "Eastwood and Company: The Making of Unforgiven" and "Eastwood … A Star," both feature footage of the making of the film and interviews with the cast on set.\nFinally, 1999's "Eastwood on Eastwood" takes a very in-depth look at the 50-plus-year career of Clint Eastwood. The set has one commentary track by film critic and Eastwood biographer Richard Schickel that offers great character insight and an unique view at the film because Schickel was involved in production. A fun extra is a 1959 episode of "Maverick" featuring a very young Eastwood. \nThe 10th-anniversary edition of Unforgiven is worth the asking price; owning the film is reason alone for purchase, but the documentaries are all great viewings as well.
