An IU student was killed in a single-vehicle accident Wednesday night on the SR-45/46 Bypass, between 10th and 17th streets.\nChad Culver, a 19-year-old sophomore from Goshen, Ind., was riding his motorcycle at 9:20 p.m. when he lost control, left the road and hit a chain-link fence, the Bloomington division of the Indiana State Police said. \nSpeed appears to have been a factor, police said.\nCulver was pronounced dead at the scene by Monroe County Coroner Dave Toumey, Corporal Jim Valentine said.\nValentine said Culver was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.\nCulver was taken to Bloomington Hospital after the coroner's examination, according to a police statement.\nCulver's friends and roommates met with Damon Sims, associate dean of students, at the IU Police Department station after the accident, Dean of Students Richard McKaig said.\nOfficers shutdown the bypass for nearly an hour while police and rescue crews investigated and cleared the scene, Valentine said.
