IU annouces scholarship winners\nOutstanding students in each school on campus have been named Chancellor's Scholars for the 2001-02 academic year. Faculty in each school selected the most distinguished student in all phases of academics.\nThis year's Chancellor's Scholars are: juniors Angela Beale and Nicholas Surmacz from the Kelley School of Business, junior Andrew Cook from the College of Arts and Sciences, sophomore Kiju Christian Hansen from the School of Informatics, senior Shirley Johnson from the School of Continuing Studies, junior Ashley Keen from the School of Journalism, junior Katarzyna Mastalerz from the College of Arts and Sciences, junior Paul Mitchell from the School of Public and Environmental Affairs, graduate student Creston Myers from the School of Optometry, graduate student Emily Ray from the School of Library and Information Science, junior Todd Relue from the College of Arts and Sciences, junior Christine Stejskal from the School of Education, junior Amanda Swango from the School of Health, Physical Education and Recreation, junior Song Zhang from the School of Music, and graduate student Zhiqiang "Zack" Zhao from the School of Law. \nThe award, which includes a special book from the student's academic discipline or membership in a professional society, also carries a scholarship. The distinction involves more than a student's grade point average. It also takes into consideration how students excel academically by performing well, taking leadership roles in different courses, doing outstanding work on research projects and other factors.\nStudent named Goldwater scholar\nSenior David Ernfrid Larson, a biology major from Indianapolis, has been selected to receive a Goldwater Scholarship from the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation for the 2002-03 academic year.\nHe was one of 309 scholars chosen on the basis of academic achievement from 1,155 students in mathematics, science and engineering nationwide. The scholarship, valued at $7,500, will cover the cost of tuition, fees, books and board for his senior year.\nThe scholarship program honoring Senator Barry M. Goldwater was designed to foster and encourage outstanding students to pursue careers in the fields of mathematics, the natural sciences and engineering. The Goldwater Scholarship is the premier undergraduate award of its type in these fields. \nMultimedia workshops for faculty\nThe Teaching and Learning Technologies Lab presents Summerfare, a series of workshops and presentations for faculty, associate instructors and instructional support staff, that will showcase the integration of technology and teaching.\nSummerfare opening events are tomorrow. History professor Nick Cullather, Germanic Studies professor Katy Fraser and East Asian Languages and Cultures professor Jennifer Liu will be presenting their multimedia teaching projects.\nThe event will run from 1:30-4 p.m. in the Oak Room of the Indiana Memorial Union.
