Rep. seeks third term for district

Monday, Rep. Peggy Welch, D-Bloomington announced her intention to seek a third term as state representative for District 60. \nWelch said there had "never been a question" that she would seek to extend her term. \n"It is very gratifying to make a difference in people's lives," Welch said. "During the last session, I was able to be involved with two bills that affected people."\nOne of those bills lowered the legal blood-alcohol content level from .10 to .08. The other bill she referred to said if a person specifies their desire to be an organ donor, that person's family is not able to reverse that decision. Both bills were passed during the 2001 session.\nWelch is currently an oncology nurse at the cancer unit of the Bloomington Hospital and is a member of the House Public Health Committee. She was first elected in 1998 when she defeated Republican Jeff Ellington. She was then re-elected in 2000, defeating Republican John Shean. Welch also chairs the Indiana General Assembly Women's Caucus.\nShe said she has no intention to run for any other public office in the near future.\n"I am very happy being a state representative," Welch said. "I plan on staying in that position"
