If you saw this movie, don't tell your friends

Glitter - PG-13 Starring: Mariah Carey, Max Beesley, Eric Benet, Da Brat Directed by: Vondie Curtis-Hall Showing: Showplace East 11

In order to fully concentrate on the movie "Glitter" to do my review, I thought I would buy out an entire show so I could watch it by myself. Okay, to be honest, I bought one ticket and was the only one in the theater. For some reason, fans weren't rushing out to see Mariah Carey take a shot at acting. "Glitter" was the 11th highest grossing movie the weekend it opened. Many more people filed into the theaters to see movies that have been out for more than a month.\nThe opening scenes of the movie probably have the best acting. A young Billie Franklin (Mariah Carey's character) is sadly torn away from her alcoholic mother in a heart-wrenching scene with decent acting that ends when Mariah Carey first appears in the movie. It's blatantly obvious that she is doing no real acting at all, except for the fake laugh she belts out periodically in the movie.\nThere's no need to say much about the plot of the movie. It's predictable and redundant. Billie is amazing in front of the camera (or so we are led to think), her boyfriend D.J. Dice gets mad (usually because Billie is dressed like a whore), they fight, make up and all is well in the star-gazed eyes of Billie Franklin. Repeat. Repeat again.\nMariah Carey is one of the most successful female vocalists of her time, which is why I couldn't understand why she couldn't even lip sync to her own music during the film. Her lips are hardly ever with the lyrics and as she belts out the high notes her mouth barely opens.\nIt seems like all singers nowadays can't just be singers, they also have to be actors. In Carey's case, she should have stuck with singing. A few months ago her single "Loverboy" was doing so poorly it was on sale for only $.48 at College Mall. Pretty soon the movie might be shown for free, and it's not even worth that. Don't bother until you're paid to go see it.
