Sound Tribe Sector 9 brings sound to Bluebird

In one of their first Indiana appearances, Sound Tribe Sector 9 proved that, even lacking the additional percussion of Jeffree Lerner, these boys from Atlanta definitely know how to put on one hell of a show. \nIn their two sets they ranged from relatively atmospheric rhythms and melodies to intense drum-and-bass beats covered by masterfully interwoven bass (David Murphy), guitar (Hunter Brown) and synths (David Phipps). Quite possibly the most impressive part of the show was the beats -- all live, played by Zach Velmer with a precision that can only be described as machinelike. The band has shown considerable maturation musically since their first release, Offered Schematics Suggesting Peace, released on Landslide Records last year. There was also a very interesting lighting display accompanying the band, which went along nicely with the psychedelic overtones of the music.\nThe crowd was sparse enough to allow comfortable dancing room for the attendants, something which will likely be hard to come by on future dates in this area, as several people had driven from as far away as Muncie to come check out the show. After the show, they all seemed to think it was well worth the drive. \nThe only slight problem was the starting delay -- billed to start at 8:30 p.m. originally, the band did not go on until after 10:30 p.m., though they brought a DJ and MC to entertain the audience from about 9:40 p.m. until they finally made it to the stage.
