'Preacher Dan' needs to mature

Mr. Moy's ignorant high school friend used an approach that obviously did more harm than good for the cause of Christ; let's hope this "Preacher Dan" has since matured. Moy accused this friend of being closed-minded when he'd asserted those who didn't accept Christ as their Savior weren't going to heaven. Don't Muslims believe you must adhere to the pillars of Islam to attain Paradise? Don't Hindus believe you must build up good karma to end the cycle of transmigration? Don't Buddhists believe you must achieve enlightenment to attain Nirvana? Christians believe you must accept a loving God's offer of forgiveness and fellowship to be forgiven and have eternal fellowship with him. I'm not sorry if believing such an offer of eternal love, joy and peace, in the personal companionship of the Creator and Sustainer of the universe, is true and sincere and that we have free will to refuse it seems closed-minded.\nRegardless of whether the claim is true, Moy's insistence that one religion cannot claim to be the right one does not logically follow from his assertion that there are many religions in the world.\nAnd what about ancient people who never heard of Christianity? Will they go to hell, as Mr. Moy wrote? What is certain: when Jesus Christ judges humanity, He will be absolutely, perfectly just; no one will ever end up in hell unjustly or unfairly.\nWhat of dead babies, whom Mr. Moy claims his biblically illiterate friend said would all go to hell? Absolute nonsense! The Bible teaches that only obstinate sinners who refuse pardon, not the innocent, will see hell. In fact, Jesus used innocent children as models for His disciples. The apostle Paul wrote that he hadn't died spiritually to God until he'd been old enough to know right from wrong and chose to do evil.\nMany people are unaware not only of literary and rhetorical devices, but the cultural and historical context of the New Testament's descriptions of hell. They misread the symbols and metaphors. Hell will not be a place of eternal torture, God doesn't torture anyone, nor is the fire of hell literal. Hell is the eternal state of being without God, for those who chose to live their earthly lives without God. God doesn't force anybody to love him. In fact, hell will be the preferable place for anyone who doesn't love God. It would be worse for them to be forced involuntarily into heaven, where they would spend eternity bored in worship and praise they had no interest in giving. As theologian J.P. Moreland wrote, "Hell will forever be a monument to human dignity and the value of human choice."\nMr. Moy wrote that condemning others might not be the right thing to do because nobody knows what will happen when they die. Jesus Christ said he came into the world not to condemn it, but so it might be saved through Him. All who accept his offer of love and pardon know they have eternal life.
