It is no secret that we have a large, hilly campus. Those of us with disabilities rely on the bus system to get us around. I use Disabled Student Services to transport me to and from class, and they have been very good to me. However, they need more funding to maintain their vans, so I encourage all students to write the IU administration and ask them to appropriate more money for DSS. DSS is also constrained in that their office closes at 5 p.m. Fridays and is closed during the weekend. I do not drive to campus myself, because I have never found available handicapped spaces. So, during this time, I use Bloomington Transit Authority to get to and from my off-campus apartment. I do this as rarely as I can because, frankly, they stink. Every time I attempt to use these buses, the drivers do not know how to operate the lifts, if they work at all. Some of you may have seen me struggle with this. I have spoken with BTA before regarding this matter and they promised to watch out for me; however, the same poor service continues. \nI hope those who read this will contact BTA and demand better service for future students with disabilities. As for me, I am moving on to a more accessible campus. I just can't take it anymore.
