'IDS' editor wrong to ban discussion

As a former managing editor and opinion page editor of the Indiana Daily Student, I am astounded to learn the paper has banned its columnists from discussing the decision to publish David Horowitz's controversial ad opposing reparations for slavery. It sounds like IDS editor in chief Brooke Ruivivar is ready to move into corporate management of newspapers. An editor encourages discussion of controversial topics; a corporate pencil-pusher quashes any dissenting views on the topic. I'm well aware that the School of Journalism and IDS Publisher David Adams have no real control of the editorial decisions. But has the school fallen so far that there aren't enough "real" journalists around to qualify for IDS editorial leadership?
