I would like to commend the IDS for its article regarding the U.S. bombing of Iraq, ("Bush was wrong to bomb Iraq," Feb. 28). I find such a stance in a campus publication to be bold and necessary. \nIt is our obligation as citizens and students in the United States to openly express the wrongful practices in which our country partakes. We must present to our society and the world that our government does not act on behalf of its people. The United Nations, various allies and many U.S. citizens do not endorse such violent acts, and there is a need for more publications to bring light to this. \nWe also do not support economic sanctions that harm only the most vulnerable people in Iraq and not the regime. The U.S. foreign policy in regards to Iraq has caused disrespect throughout the world including our allies. It is for this reason that many countries are ignoring the sanctions as our country continues to look like a lone gunman. \nThe United States' efforts to demonize Iraqi citizens and subsequently justify the withholding of food and medicine has killed more than one million people since the war, mostly children. The unfortunate circumstances facing mostly innocent Iraqi civilians represents a horrible injustice of human rights that is being perpetuating by our very own country.
Bombing, sanctions hurt the innocent
