It wasn't the giant step forward the Hoosiers were looking for, but the softball squad did manage to salvage a disappointing weekend with a 4-1 win against Pittsburgh Sunday.\n"I thought it was very important to get the win," junior catcher Brooke Monroe said. "We played really well in our first game against South Florida, and then we played down the next three games. Then we played well in the fifth game, so it was nice that we came back and got the win."\nTeam co-captains, Monroe and third baseman Stormy Hanson, a sophomore, got the Hoosiers (3-7) going early, as Hanson drove home Monroe, who turned a would-be out into a double in the first inning to make the score 1-0.\nJunior pitcher Alison Cooke remained the Hoosiers' workhorse, pitching a complete game, while surrendering only five hits. Cooke moved her record to 2-3 on the season. It was an impressive outing for Cooke, who bounced back after an off-outing the previous game against Georgia State, where she gave up 12 hits and six earned runs.\nMonroe extended the Hoosiers in the lead with a two-run double in the fifth inning and enjoyed a strong tournament for the Hoosiers offensively. She also had three RBIs and a home run for the weekend.\nSophomore shortstop Lisa Mattke also had a noteworthy effort at the plate, where she went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
