A writer stated that the Boy Scouts should not be under attack for banning homosexuals because they are a private organization, and not funded by the state ("Boy Scouts don't deserve criticism," Oct. 10).\nI am an Eagle Scout. I am gay. And I find what the Boy Scouts are doing as repugnant, and goes against the grain of being American or Christian. \nThe Boy Scouts take money from the United Way, use government facilities for their meetings and are seen as part of Americana. A private organization does have the right to set its own rules, but not when it promotes hate or intolerance. I am proud that the girl has a gay best friend. Because of that reason, the writer should want that best friend to not be discriminated against, one would hope. Also, I would bet that any atheist would be welcome in a church, and you, as a white person, would be welcome in a National Association for the Advancement of Colored People office. They are there to advance black causes, not bash white people. It would be discrimination if they told you that you did not belong. Religious beliefs should not justify intolerance or ignorance. \nGood "Christian" morals always included acceptance, or maybe I was in the wrong catechism class. The writer has two more years left at IU -- maybe in that time, she will take a class on tolerance and acceptance, and realize that this is an issue of gay and anti-gay.\nChristian Carroll\nClass of 1991
