Pro-life mailing accomplished its goal

I would like to respond to Jonathon Schuster's letter ("Pro-life mailing offends students," Oct. 17) by informing him that he missed the entire idea motivating the distribution of the pro-life pamphlet that was mailed to students on campus. The so-called "horrific picture of a dead fetus" was not meant to be a pleasant sight -- it was supposed to be disturbing. \nPerhaps you missed that day in your high school history class when your teacher showed the footage of the concentration camps during World War II. Was that not disturbing as well? It is pretty safe to say that you have seen photographs of many more victims of the Holocaust than of aborted babies. Why, then, is it more disturbing for you to view the result of something you support? This pamphlet did precisely what its distributors intended for it to do, which is to make people see the reality of the situation.\nIn regard to the "right to privacy" argument, I would like to remind you that this mailing was no more intrusive than any piece of advertisement you receive. Just as no one forces you to look at and read about every credit card offer you receive in the mail, no one forced you to give the envelope containing the pamphlet a second thought. Do not complain about others imposing their beliefs when you yourself willingly took the time to allow them to do so.\nKristin Louderback\nFreshman
