Greens and Libertarians: Head to head on the issues

GREENS\nEducation: The government should encourage schools to infuse their curriculum with a citizenship emphasis.\nHealth care: Health care should be provided by a national health insurance program providing comprehensive benefits to all Americans throughout their lives, and funded directly by the federal government.\nSocial Security: Social Security does not need to be 'saved,' it needs to be improved, which can be done by calmly making gradual changes.\nCampaign finance reform: Political campaigns should be publicly financed, just like public libraries, parks and schools.\nEnvironment: Using the government procurement arm to stipulate standards that will foster the purchase of motor vehicles that are more fuel-efficient, with new kinds of engines.\nThe Green Key Values:\n1) Grassroots Democracy \n2) Social Justice and Equal Opportunity \n3) Ecological Wisdom \n4) Nonviolence \n5) Decentralization \n6) Community-based Economics and Economic Justice \n7) Feminism and Gender Equality \n8) Respect for Diversity \n9) Personal and Global Responsibility \n10) Future Focus and Sustainability\nInfo taken from www.votenader.org.\nInformation about Ralph Nader and the Green Party in general can be found at www.votenader.org and www.greens.org..\nNader needs just 2 percent of the popular vote in Indiana for the Green Party to receive automatic ballot access. He needs 5 percent of the overall popular vote to receive federal matching funds.\nLIBERTARIANS\nEducation: Eliminate the U.S. Department of Education, which spends billions on education and educates no one.\nHealth care: (Reforms) that draw on the strength of the free market.\nSocial Security: Libertarians believe you should be able to opt out of Social Security and invest your money in your own personal retirement account.\nCampaign finance reform: Ending government funding of any political party or candidate.\nEnvironment: The environment would benefit immensely from the elimination of sovereign immunity coupled with the privatization of 'land and beast.'\nInfo taken from the National Program of the Libertarian Party and www.lp.org.
