LIVE UPDATES: Will Power wins the 102nd Indianapolis 500 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway

The 100th running of the Indianapolis 500 race was celebrated in 2016. Will Power, a 37-year-old born in Australia, won the 102nd running of the Indianapolis 500 on Sunday afternoon at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

- FINAL: That will do it for the Indiana Daily Student's live updates from the 102nd Indianapolis 500 on Sunday afternoon at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. A native of Toowoomba, Australia, 37-year-old Will Power won the race. It's the first Indianapolis 500 win for Power, who also won a Verizon IndyCar Series Championship in 2014. He has also won a race in each of the last 12 IndyCar race seasons. Thank you for following along.

- Here is the complete finishing order from the 102nd Indianapolis 500.

- Power celebrated his win in victory lane with his wife and the iconic bottle of milk given to the Indianapolis 500 winner.

- FINISH: Will Power has won the 102nd Indianapolis 500. Ed Carpenter was second, followed by Scott Dixon, Alexander Rossi and Ryan Hunter-Reay.

- Oriol Servia was easily overtaken on the restart with seven laps to go, an eventual Stefan Wilson took the lead in the closing laps, but he had to come in to pit. Will Power then moved into the lead by nearly 40 car-lengths to win the race.

- CRASH: Tony Kanaan crashes on the backstretch with 12 laps to go. His car got loose and spun into the infield grass. This changes everything regarding fuel and pitting strategy, in particular for Will Power and the three cars ahead of him, all of which may need to pit or stretch their fuel to an extreme level. Oriol Servia, the leader, will stay out and try and win the race.

- After green-flag pit stops, Power is shown in sixth. Scott Dixon pitted very early and will try to win the race on fuel mileage. There are 20 laps to go.

- The cycle of crashes seems to have come to a temporary end. The running order is Power, Carpenter and Alexander Rossi with 30 laps to go.

- CRASH: Another restart and another wreck. This time it's Sage Karam's car. Karam got loose exiting turn four and had the back end of his car hit the outside wall. The impact forced one of his rear tires to bounce down pit road after being separated from the car, while Karam kept the car against the outside wall as he crashed down the front stretch. Crash happened on Lap 155.

- CRASH: Just a couple laps after the restart, Helio Castroneves crashes on Lap 147. When exiting turn four, Castroneves' car got loose and the back end hit directly against the wall near pit road. Castroneves' car then slid down pit road. His quest for a fourth Indianapolis 500 title is done.

- CRASH: Sebastian Bourdais crashes on Lap 139. Bourdais' car was completely out of control entering tour four, where it spun at smacked the wall. Caution comes as the race nears the 75-percent completed mark. Bourdais had recovered to race in IndyCar this season after suffering severe injuries during a qualifying crash for last year's Indianapolis 500.

- During a cycle of green flag pit stops, Josef Newgarden takes the lead. The top five is now Newgarden, Graham Rahal, Robert Wickens, Carlos Munoz and Power.

- Will Power is still the leader after 125 laps. Carpenter, Pagenaud, Ryan Hunter-Reay and Castroneves complete the top five.

- After 110 of 200 laps, Will Power leads the Indianapolis 500. Tony Kanaan cycled back into the lead after pitting ahead of his closest competitors, Carpenter, Power, Pagenaud and Castroneves, but Kanaan had to pit again less than 10 laps later due to a tire puncture. As a result, Power is now out front.

- UPDATE: Ed Jones is going to IU Health Methodist Hospital with head and neck pain after being evaluated at Indianapolis Motor Speedway following his crash on Lap 58.

- After the restart, Tony Kanaan has shuffled into the race lead. He leads Carpenter by about half a second.

- CRASH: Danica Patrick crashes on Lap 68. She was running in 17th when her car got loose in turn two and spun into the wall. This marks the end of Patrick's driving career.

- Kanaan passes Carpenter on the restart, but Carpenter passes him right back on Lap 65.

- CRASH: Ed Jones crashes in turn two on Lap 58. Jones, who finished third in last year's race, got loose exiting turn two. He was 24th at the time of the crash and was the only car involved in the incident.

- Zachary Claman De Melo used an alternative pit strategy to lead coming out of the pit stops, but Carpenter and Kanaan easily pass him using fresh tires. Carpenter leads Lap 55.

- Will Power gains three positions during the round of pit stops following the crash between Davison and Sato. Carpenter and Tony Kanaan remain first and second.

- CRASH: The yellow flag is out for James Davison and Takuma Sato, last year's winner, in turn four. The crash occurred on Lap 47. Davison's car slowed and Sato hit the back of his car trying to maneuver around it. Davison's car had been slower than the rest of the field during most of the race.

- As the race goes beyond the 100-mile mark, Carpenter continues to lead. Nothing even close to caution so far.

- Carpenter cycles back to the race lead on Lap 35.

- Josef Newgarden temporarily took the lead while Carpenter pitted. During Newgarden's pit stop, he gets an air-pressure adjustment in his tires.

- Carpenter, Simon Pagenaud, Helio Castroneves and others pit on Lap 31. Carpenter beats Pagenaud out of the pits.

- Danica Patrick, in her final race as a driver, is the first to pit on Lap 31.

- Ed Carpenter, who started the race in the pole position, has led throughout the first 25 laps.

- The drivers were led to the starting line by former IU basketball player and current Indiana Pacers player Victor Oladipo, who is driving the pace car for today's race.

- The 2018 Indianapolis 500 started with a temperature of 89 degrees, which is the fourth-highest start temperature in race history.

- Prior to the race, several ceremonies took place on the track, such as the Parade of Bands and the 500 Festival Princess Parade Laps.
