IU announces novice signing class

Rowing

IU announced the signing of 23 students to join the novice rowing program for the 2017-18 season.

The class includes students from seven states, including 16 students from the state of Indiana. The other states represented in this class are Kentucky, Georgia, Illinois, Connecticut, Ohio, and Texas.

IU has advanced to the last four NCAA Championships which were the first four appearances in program history. The novice team has been an important part of the program’s success as on last year’s team, 77-percent of the team started their involvement with the novice team. It is coached by Kim Chavers and is for new and inexperienced rowers to develop their skills, potentially moving up to the Varsity level.

At the last four Big Ten Championships, the IU First Novice Eight has finished fifth or better in three of the four years.
